At Data Center World Brasil, I had the pleasure of moderating a discussion with Victor, Bruno Cavalcanti from Conexis Brasil Digital, Luiz Henrique Barbosa da Silva from TelComp – Associaรงรฃo Brasileira das Prestadoras de Serviรงos de Telecomunicaรงรตes Competitivas, Valter Wolf from Brasscom.
Brazil has a major opportunity ahead. The approval of REDATA was a significant industry achievement, built through the joint effort of ABDC – Brazilian Data Centers Association, the associations represented on this panel, other industry associations and the private sector.
The bill exempting data center hardware from federal taxes was a major win! The next steps now depend on government action: publish the REDATA regulation and eligible equipment list, secure state adherence on ICMS (state tax), establish clear rules, including the AI legal framework, and advance a national connectivity policy that expands fiber infrastructure beyond the main hubs, allowing more states to benefit from this growth.
The opportunity is enormous. The next step is execution!๐๐ป

O Brasil tem uma oportunidade enorme pela frente. A aprovaรงรฃo do REDATA foi uma grande conquista da indรบstria, construรญda pelo trabalho conjunto da ABDC – Brazilian Data Centers Association, das associaรงรตes representadas no painel, de outras entidades do setor e da iniciativa privada.
O projeto de lei que isenta equipamentos de data centers de tributos federais foi uma grande conquista! Os prรณximos passos agora dependem da aรงรฃo do governo: publicar a regulamentaรงรฃo do REDATA e a lista de equipamentos elegรญveis, garantir a adesรฃo dos estados ao benefรญcio de ICMS, estabelecer regras claras, incluindo o marco legal da IA, e avanรงar em uma polรญtica nacional de conectividade que amplie a infraestrutura de fibras para alรฉm dos principais hubs, permitindo que mais estados se beneficiem desse crescimento.
